GTA: The Trilogy is not a full-scale remake of these classic open-world games, but they’ve all been given enough spit and polish to look noticeably better than their original counterparts. You can control the camera and navigate menus using the system’s touch screen, plus gyro aiming will be included like in games such as Splatoon 2. Nintendo Switch players get a few extra gameplay options. This was sorely missing from the original versions of all three games. One announcement that has got diehard GTA fans very pleased is the confirmation that you’ll be able to restart failed missions instantly. There's an updated weapon/radio selection wheels, as well as an improved mini-map that is easier to read and allows you to set custom waypoints. If you’ve played a modern GTA the upgraded control scheme should feel instantly familiar to you. This means no more accelerating with face buttons. Rockstar has detailed the full list of changes in a blog post, but the biggest improvement looks to be “Grand Theft Auto V-style controls and targeting” across all three games. The Definitive Edition was developed by a seemingly new studio called Grove Street Games using the Unreal Engine. On PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, the games can run at 4K/60FPS, Rockstar said. Elsewhere, fans can look forward to "all new foliage, smoother surfaces, and increased draw distances to provide a new level of depth and clarity throughout the world." Character and vehicle models are upgraded, too, while buildings, weapons, roads, and interiors have higher resolution textures. Rockstar also mentioned that the each game has a "completely rebuilt" lighting system that features better shadows, weather, and reflections. ![]() The PC edition, meanwhile, has support for Nvidia DLSS and more connectivity with the Rockstar Games Social Club. The Switch version supports gyro aiming, and players can use the touch screen for camera zooming, pans, and to make selections from the menu. Achievements and Trophies are updated as well. The mini-maps have been updated, too, so players can set waypoints to specific places. As leaks suggested, the game will have "GTA V-inspired modern controls," along with "across-the-board visual enhancements" including resolution upgrades and "improved visual fidelity across the world."
